Another one bites the dust

Fraochán reported some sad news to me yesterday: she and her husband had stopped in to Mocha Joe's Beanery in the Metro Centre in Peoria to pick up some Snickerdoodle coffee, only to find out that the shop is going out of business.
Mocha Joe's was one of the first great espresso/cappuccino shops in Peoria. When my friends and I started driving to the big city of Peoria, we would hang out at Mocha Joe's drinking chocolatey mochas and shoot the breeze. We always had a blast there, and I continued to stop there for many years after, for gifts or for a good cup of coffee.
I am sorry to see them go.

LOL! Yes, you are!
Well, we might have another place for you to check out for local coffee. We'll report back around birthday time...

Last Christmas I gave a coffee loving friend a "coffee tour of Peoria" with gift cards and a map of the locally owned coffee places in town.

We marked all the starbucks on the map with a big red line through them. :)

We need to keep frequenting our local coffee shops like Kades, Leaves & Beans and One World, etc. if we want them to still be around.

DOWN WITH STARBUCKS!

james3v1,
What a creative gift idea! I love it.
Starbucks has really moved into Peoria full force. The local places need our business now more than ever!

Honestly, and Jeep I think you will have noticed this in your travels, Starbucks in Peoria is not as bad as some towns. I can't remember what town it was....perhaps Kansas City? but it was like Walgreens - a damn Starbucks on every 2nd block. ANNOYING!

Truth be told, I rarely drink coffee. I mean rarely. But I hardly think Starbucks "sucks" as a whole....perhaps one location here or one location there is not worth the money - but the entire chain, in my eyes....doesn't "suck". If it did....it wouldn't be as massive as it is in size. I personally liked the location near the market in Seattle....

You should come over to Germany and try our coffee shops here and you will see that Starbucks really does "suck". You americans are so fickle when it comes to your chains....

Been there...done that. ;)

I do like coffee, and had some excellent coffee in Germany. No Starbucks on that trip!
I don't care for Starbucks brewed coffee, or Gloria Jeans, for that matter. I'm always up for a local shop when I see one!
