Local biz casualties 2008

I remember putting together a list of local businesses that closed last year, and have been mentally preparing my list for this year for a couple of weeks.
Some of these closures are fairly recent while others happened several months ago.

In 2008, we said goodbye to:
CopperWorks
Basil's
Red Zin
Euro Jack's
The Ugly Mug
Penguin Tap
River Station
White Buffalo
Walt's Dos
Ken's Gourmet Chili
Danner's Salads
Jill's
Lenny's Comedy Café
Mi Rancho Grande
Po-Boys

Pekin lost La Villetta.

Yes, the list is a bit longer than last year's, and I know there are more that have closed and/or reopened as other businesses.

I forgot about La Villetta. My parents made it over there, but I did not get a chance.

Never even heard of La Villetta. But then again, we never go to Pekin....

Are these only the places you've written about? Or are they only places open in 2007 that closed in 2008? Mikey's Pizza and Subs closed, and I believe they didn't even last a year. Vino 100 closed. KKolors infamously closed right after opening. Those are just off the top of my head.

Yes, these are primarily places that I wrote about, and a few that were high profile closings.

I did not realize that Mikey's had closed. I actually mentioned to my husband within the last two weeks that we should try the pizza there, because I heard good things about it.

Vino 100 has several locations across the US and didn't seem very local, but I will miss it at Grand Prairie.

Keep 'em coming if anyone knows of more local businesses that closed in 2008. I regret not making it out to some of these places before they were gone, and visited a couple of new ones this week.

Was that one sandwich shop that closed...out at Grand Prairie a chain? We have discussed it...just can't remember the name. Oh the little sandwich shop where the shower was in Lacon closed as well.

Oh, I really enjoyed Milo's in Lacon! But I think that the shower was also the last time I made it to Lacon.

Camille's, which used to be next to Clark's in Grand Prairie, is a chain, yes. As far as I know, there is one still open in Pekin.

Mikey's sort of closed. His parents retired so he is running their pizza joint in Galesburg and leased out the space in Peoria which didn't work out.

Gulley's opened and closed.

Bakers Square. '08 or '09?

Is Yamamoto still open? It looks closed.

We did try to go to Mikey's late last year and found them closed.
I also thought Yamamoto looked closed last week when I went by. I'll have to check it out.
Baker's Square closed in '08.
